What is a sit on top kayak?
A sit on top kayak is just that; a kayak that you sit on top of, rather than inside of. The paddler is still slightly sunk into the well of the kayak, but getting in and out is very easy.
Firstly, the kayaker is not trapped in the event of a capsize. Secondly, they are virtually unsinkable, having air between the inner and outer hulls as well as self-bailing scuppers. Thirdly, they are fantastic for carrying kit and equipment with numerous places to store things, both inside watertight compartments and in wells underneath bungee cords.
