A Wake-Up Call for Our Oceans

Recognising the severe impact of plastic pollution, we have taken significant steps to protect our waterways. In 2022, Fatyak charted a new course and made history by becoming the world's first plastic-neutral watersports brand. Driven by our commitment to fighting ocean plastic pollution, we launched initiatives like a take-back scheme for recycling old kayaks and offering discounts on new purchases. By joining the Paddle for Plastic campaign, we aim to build a circular economy and support communities in protecting the ocean. We support communities and explorers in their efforts to raise awareness of plastic pollution and incorporate marine plastic into our recycled kayaks, offsetting the rest of our plastic consumption with plastic credits.

The World’s First Plastic-Neutral Kayak Manufacturer

In 2024, Fatyak became the world’s first plastic-neutral kayak manufacturer. This milestone was made possible through our partnership with Odyssey Innovation, whose innovative recycling processes turn waste plastic into high-quality materials for our kayaks.

By using marine plastic collected by Odyssey Innovation and offsetting our virgin plastic usage with their  Plastic Footprint Certification ™ credits scheme, we’ve taken a major step toward sustainability.

Through the purchasing of plastic credits, we’re able to fund vital recycling projects, prevent further plastic pollution, and promote sustainable solutions.

Pioneering a Sustainable Future for Paddling

Our high quality, durable kayaks have long been the top choice for hire centers due to their reliability and performance.

Now, with our innovative range of recycled kayaks, we are witnessing increased interest from hire centers, adventure groups, and NGOs. These eco-friendly options not only reduce environmental impact but also enhance the appeal of sustainable tourism. Eco tours offer the chance to experience nature while making a positive difference and raising awareness.

The Marine Regeneration Scheme

The Marine Regeneration Scheme -a GGGI endorsed activity for reducing ghost gear- is an international mechanism that offers free recycling support to marine conservation charities, beach clean groups, marinas, councils, divers, watersports hire outlets amongst others.

Through our work with Odyssey Innovation, we purchase marine plastic pellets that go into the manufacture of our Recycled Kayak range and then offset the plastic used in virgin plastic kayaks through the sale of plastic credits, that once again fund the Marine Regeneration Scheme and all its supporters.

This robust initiative, like its sister, the Net Regeneration Scheme, is fully traceable and all plastic is processed back into a wide variety of circular economy products.

The Paddle For Plastic Campaign

While public beaches in the UK benefit from regular clean-up efforts, remote coves and inaccessible stretches of coastline continue to suffer from plastic pollution. These areas, where wildlife thrives, are increasingly contaminated by hazardous plastic waste, threatening delicate ecosystems.

In 2016, the Paddle for Plastic campaign was launched to tackle this issue. By raising awareness and empowering individuals and community groups, the campaign enables the recovery of plastic waste from hard-to-reach coastlines and waterways—using kayaks as the ultimate tool for access.

Kayaking offers unmatched access to untouched coastlines and waterways, allowing us to reach areas that would otherwise remain polluted. To help preserve these beautiful environments for future generations, we proudly joined the Paddle for Plastic campaign.
